A Perfect Example of Two Types of Magick.
August 13, 2002
Remember my co-worker Anthony? Well, something happened a month or so back. One day he had the worst vibes around him, like he was really angry, like I did something wrong. When I asked him, he said that he was working up a spell to get negativity away from himself so that he would be more appealing to our employers - or somesuch. Here is a prime example of black magick versus white magick. Here was someone who was throwing bad energy away from himself, with no regard for anyone who would be on the receiving end. He was loathe to discuss it, insisting that doing so would lessen the spell. The ethical thing to have done of course was to absorb negativity into an object or vessel, then dispose of it properly. Nobody gets feedback or fallout, and essentially if one is meant to be more appealing, change will come accordingly. On my site The Science of Magick, I mention how many of the Caribbean Catholics practice a cross between Pagan magick and Catholicism, with spells, jinxes, and the saints in place of a polytheisic hierarchy. The spellcasting is more aggressive than what witches and the like do (which is ironic considering that they're the ones looked upon as evil and unethical). Not being pagan, I'm among the "and the like" crowd. Anyway, I immediately did a chakra visualization exercise at my desk to create a barrier from further negativity. This took about two minutes and caused someone to wonder whether I had fallen asleep. Most of what he had to say since was that the job and the people we work with are a joke. Just a lot more negativity. Well, the Rede works and there's the proof. The bad vibes came back to him stronger than ever. Things came to a head between us a couple of weeks ago. Our chance of getting out early for the weekend was on the line, and the tech support Emails were remaining for us to do. He expressed that he would not strain himself and answer any, while the rest of us had to pull our weight. I told him that was unfair, and he got nasty. This was all hashed out in AIM btw. Very quiet. His response was basically who died and put me in charge. I guess he overlooked the direct order from our supervisor. Unless he thought it was some kind of joke. [more]
